The Church inaugurated a new website dedicated solely to speak of the Savior, revealing what our leaders and the church itself feels and knows about the Lord.
There are a variety of items, with the wisdom to which we have already used our general authorities and are a delight to read and meditate, increasing our testimonies through the profound messages, full of humility and testimony of the servants of the Lord, that day to-day leadership to carry forward this great work progresses.
Spread this beautiful message of the Apostle Boyd K. Paker, released on this new page of the LDS Church, which can visit HERE --------------------------------------------
When the Father's plan was submitted (see Alma 42:5, 8)-the plan of salvation and happiness-(see Alma 34:9), needed one to atone to provide redemption and mercy to all accept the plan (see Alma 34:16, 39:18, 42:15). The Father asked, "... Whom shall I send?" And became known as Jesus responded willingly and well prepared: "... Here am I send me" (Abraham 3:27). "... Father, thy will, and the glory be thine forever" (Moses 4:2).
In preparation, he created the earth: "... through the Son, my only begotten ... I created [the land]," said the Father (Moses 1:33; see also Ephesians 3:9, Helaman 14:12 , Moses 2:1).
titles
Jesus Christ from the Old Testament prophets knew him as Lord (see Abraham 1:16, Exodus 6:3). Coming into the world was in the prophets: "Behold the Lamb of God, even the Son of the Eternal Father" (1 Nephi 11:21; see also John 1:14). And His mother said: "... call His name Jesus ... and be called the Son of the Most High "(Luke 1:31-32).
Many of their titles and names describe His divine mission and ministry. He himself taught: "I am the light and life of the world. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end "(3 Nephi 9:18). "... I am your advocate with the Father" (D & C 29:5, see also D & C 110:14). "I am the good shepherd" (John 10:11). "I am the Messiah, the King of Zion, the Rock of Heaven" (Moses 7:53). "I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger ... [or] thirst" (John 6:35). "I am the true vine and my Father is the husbandman" (John 15:1). "I am the resurrection and the life" (John 11:25). "I am ... the bright morning star" (Revelation 22:16), Jesus Christ, your Redeemer, the Great I Am "(D & C 29:1).
He is the Mediator (see 1 Timothy 2:5), the Savior (see Luke 2:11), the Redeemer (see D & C 18:47), is head of the Church (see Ephesians 5:23 ) and its main cornerstone (see Ephesians 2:20). The last day "God will judge through Jesus Christ [a] of men, according to [the] gospel" (Romans 2:16; see also Mormon 3:20).
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son ..." (John 3:16); "Wherefore, redemption cometh in the Holy Christ and through him, because he is full of grace and truth "(2 Nephi 2:6).
be used to ask the Prophet Joseph Smith: "What are the fundamental principles of their religion?".
"The fundamental principles of our religion are the testimony of the apostles and prophets concerning Jesus Christ, who died, was buried, rose again the third day and ascended into heaven, and all the other things that pertain to our religion are only appendages to it " 1 .
Christ's humility
By the time he liked, before His crucifixion, the Lord had just come out of Gethsemane. At the time of betrayal, Peter drew his sword to strike Malchus, a servant of the high priest, but Jesus said:
"... again thy sword into his place ...
" Do you think that I can not now pray to my Father , and he did not give me more than twelve legions of angels "(Matthew 26:52-53).
For all the ridicule, abuse, torture, flogging and the end of the crucifixion, the Lord remained silent and submissive, that is, except in a time of intense stress that reveals the essence of Christian doctrine. That moment occurred during the trial, when Pilate, who was afraid and said to Jesus: "I do not speak? Do not you know I have power to crucify thee, and I have power to release thee? "(John 19:10).
can only imagine the quiet majesty of the Lord to answer: "... have no power against me unless it had been given you from above" (John 19:11). What took place then there was because Pilate had had the power to order, but because the Lord was willing to accept.
"... I lay down my life," said he, "take it again."
"No one takes, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down and I have power to take it again "(John 10:17-18).
The Atonement
Before and after the Crucifixion, there have been many men who have willingly given their lives in selfless acts of heroism, but none faced what Christ endured. About It fell the burden of all human transgression, all human guilt. And the uncertain future of mankind depended on the Atonement. Through His voluntary act of mercy was reconciled with the law, ratified the eternal law and mediation achieved without which mortal man could not be redeemed.
By His own will and the benefit of all mankind, He accepted the punishment for all the wickedness and depravity of the world: the brutality, immorality, perversion and corruption, and addiction; for killings , torture and terror, for everything bad that has or will get to do on this earth. In doing so, he faced the terrible power of evil, which was not limited by the flesh and be subject to mortal pain. That was Gethsemane!
We do not know how they carried out the Atonement. No mortal that observed when the evil away and hid in shame before the light of that pure Being. All the wickedness of the world could not quench the light. When the act was accomplished, what He did pay the ransom, both death and hell gave up claim to all those who repent. Finally, the man was released and every soul to live could choose to follow that Light and be redeemed.
Through this infinite sacrifice, "... for the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel "(Articles of Faith 1:3).
The Atonement in Scripture
The English word atonement [atonement] actually consists of three words: at-one-ment, which in English means "to unite in a" be one with God, reconcile, conciliate, to expiate.
But you know that in English, in the New Testament, the word atonement is only once? [In English, in the New Testament, does not appear even once the word atonement , although the passage in Hebrews 2:17 the verb used expiate.] I quote from the letter of Paul to the Romans, where he uses the term reconciliation [which appears in other passages]:
" ... Christ died for us.
"... we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
"And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation " (Romans 5:8, 10-11, emphasis added).
Only once is the word atonement English [atonement], in the New Testament. Atonement , precisely! It was a word unknown, since it used many times in the Old Testament related to the law of Moses. I find it incredible. Only
know an explanation to which we refer to the Book of Mormon. Nephi testified that the Bible before, "contained the fulness of the gospel of the Lord, from whom the twelve apostles bear witness" and that after the words "come ... of the twelve apostles of the Lamb, from the Jews to the Gentiles, thou seest the training a great and abominable church, which is most abominable above all other churches, because, here, has stripped the gospel of the Lamb many parts which are plain and precious, and has also removed many of the covenants of the Lord " (1 Nephi 13:24, 26). Jacob
define the great and abominable church with these words: "So who engage in advocacy against Zion, both Jew and Gentile, slave and free, male and female, shall perish, because they are the ones who are the whore of all the earth; because those who are not with me are against me, saith our God "(2 Nephi 10:16).
addition, Nephi says, "... a Because of the many plain and precious things that have been removed from the book ... many do stumble, yea, so that Satan has great power over them "(1 Nephi 13:29). And then prophesies that these precious things would be restored (see 1 Nephi 13:34-35).
and were restored. In the Book of Mormon is the word thirty-nine times in its two forms, as a noun and a verb. I limit myself to quoting a verse from Alma: "Now, no one could carry out the plan of mercy unless performing an expiation , so God atones for the sins of the world, to make the plan mercy to appease the demands of justice, that God is a perfect God, just and merciful God also "(Alma 42:15, emphasis added).
appears only once in the New Testament and thirty-nine times in the Book of Mormon. What better testimony to the Book of Mormon is indeed another testament of Jesus Christ?
And that's not all: the words atone, atones and atonement appear five times in the Doctrine and Covenants and twice in the Pearl of Great Price. Forty-seven references of transcendent importance. And that's not all! Hundreds of other verses help to explain the Atonement.
The will
Because the will is a sovereign principle, the Lord burdened by the Atonement without compulsory. According to the plan, it should honor the will. It was so from the beginning, from Eden.
"The Lord said unto Enoch: Behold these thy brethren, are the work of my hands, and gave them the day Remember that I created, and in the Garden of Eden, gave I unto man his agency" (Moses 7:32).
Apart from anything else that happened in Eden, where momentous evidence, Adam made a decision. After that the Lord commanded Adam and Eve to multiply and replenish the earth, and commanded them not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, he said: "... However, you can choose according to your will, because it is granted, but remember that I forbid it, because the day you eat thereof you shall surely die "(Moses 3:17).
There was much at stake for the man came to death by force, that would have violated the very law that was essential to the plan. in it provided that each spirit child of God received a mortal body and that each one of them was tested. Adam understood it should be and made his decision. "Adam fell that men might, and men are to have joy" (2 Nephi 2:25).
ventured Adam and Eve to multiply and replenish the earth, as they were commanded. The creation of their bodies in the image of God created separately, it was crucial to the plan. Their subsequent fall was essential for the existence of the mortal condition and proceed with the plan.
The need of the Atonement
Nephi describes what would happen to our body and spirit unless it is made "an infinite atonement."
These words of Scripture, "... you can choose according to your will, because it is granted" (Moses 3:17), presented to Adam and Eve and their posterity, all risks of mortality. In this, the man has the freedom to choose, and every decision brings a consequence. Adam took the decision set in motion the law of justice, which demanded that the penalty for disobedience was death.
But those words spoken during the trial, "... have no power against me, if you were given up " (John 19:11), mercy proved that it was equally important. It sent a Redeemer to pay debt and free the man. That was the plan.
Corianton, the son of Alma, I thought it was unfair that there is a punishment, it was necessary to apply a penalty for sin. In a profound lesson, Alma taught the plan of redemption to his son and, therefore, to us, after speaking of the Atonement, said: "Now, repentance could not come to men unless there were a punishment "(Alma 42:16).
If punishment is the price that requires repentance, it is still a low price. The consequences, though they are painful, they protect us. The simple fact that a child's cry of pain from touching the fire tells us that, if not for the pain, the child could be destroyed.
blessings of repentance
frankly confess that I would find neither happiness nor peace nor security in a world in which there is no repentance. do not know what to do if there was no way to erase my mistakes. The suffering would be more than they could bear. Perhaps for you are different, but not for me.
Atonement took place and gives us forever amnesty from transgression and from death, if only we repent. Repentance is proof clause; is the key with which we can unlock the prison from the inside. We have that key in hand, and the will to use it.
How very precious is freedom, and how extremely valuable the will! Lucifer
cleverly manipulates our choices, deceiving us about sin and its consequences, he and his angels tempt us so that we are unworthy and even wicked, but can not completely destroy all eternity, can not, with all its power can not ", ie can not do it without our consent. If the man had had the choice without the Atonement, had received a fatal gift.
Created in His image
In Genesis, Moses, Abraham, in the Book of Mormon and the investiture teaches us that man's mortal body was made in the image of God, created separately everything else. If the building had been done differently, could not be a Fall.
If men were merely animals, logic would lead to freedom without responsibility.
I know that among the scholars there are some who look to lower creations, like the animals and rocks, to find the origin of man. They do not look within themselves to find the spirit there, but are trained to measure everything by time, by thousands and millions of years, and claim that all these animals called men are by chance. And of course, are free to speak, because they enjoy will.
But we also have choice and look upward; in the universe we see the handiwork of God and what we measure everything by season, for centuries, by dispensations, for eternity. How much we do not know, we accept by faith.
But this I know! Everything was planned "before the world was" (D & C 38:1, see also D & C 49:17, 76:13, 39; 93:7; Abraham 3:22-25) . Events ranging from the Creation to the final scene, the closing not based on chance, but based in a decision was taken. It was planned that way.
This is what we know, this really pure! If there had been a creation or a crash, there would Atonement was no need, nor a Redeemer to mediate for us. So Christ had not been justified.
Symbols of the Atonement
In Gethsemane and Golgotha, spilled blood of the Savior. Centuries earlier the Passover had been established as a symbol and representation of what was to come. It was an ordinance that would keep forever. (See Exodus 12.)
When the plague of death ruled over Egypt, was sent to every family to take a lamb Israelite firstborn, male and without blemish, the paschal lamb was killed without breaking any bones and their blood was to mark the lintel of the house. The Lord promised that the angel of death would pass by the house so marked and not kill any of its inhabitants. Thus, were saved by the blood of the lamb.
After the crucifixion of the Lord, the law of sacrifice required no more bloodshed because, as Paul taught the Hebrews, this was done "once and for all ... for all time one sacrifice for sins" (Hebrews 10:10, 12). Thereafter, the sacrifice was to be a broken heart and a contrite spirit, or repentance.
And was to celebrate Easter forever as the sacrament , in which we renew our covenant of baptism and take in remembrance of the body of the Lamb of God and His blood that was shed for us.
q ue is significant that symbol reappears in the Word of Wisdom. addition to the promise that the saints of this generation that will obey health and great treasures of knowledge, contains this: "And I, Lord, I promise that the destroying angel shall pass by them, as the children of Israel , and not slay them "(D & C 89:21).
without emotion I can not tell how I feel about the Atonement touched my deepest feelings of gratitude and obligation. My soul seeks to Him who was indeed the Christ, our Savior, who am a witness. I testify of Him is our Lord, our Redeemer, our Advocate with the Father. He ransomed us with His blood.
humbly claim my right to the atonement of Christ. I am ashamed to kneel to worship the Father and His Son, because I have agency and it is my decision do it!
